Double Bass Concerto No. 2 in E major, Krebs 172
by Karl Ditters von Dittersdorf
Double BassOrchestraClassicalConcerto~22 minprofessional
One of the earliest and most important concertos for double bass, Dittersdorf's Second Concerto in E major was composed in the 1770s for one of his virtuoso players. Its three-movement structure — lively Allegro, singing Adagio, and spirited finale — fully exploits the upper register of the instrument and has become a standard work for orchestral auditions and recitals.
