Concerto for Double Bass in A major
by Domenico Dragonetti
Dragonetti, the greatest double bass virtuoso of his era and a close friend of Beethoven, composed this concerto to showcase the instrument's lyrical and dramatic possibilities. The work demands an extraordinary range of double bass technique: lyrical cantabile in the slow movement, rapid passage work and string crossings in the outer movements. It remains the most frequently performed Baroque-Classical concerto in the professional double bass repertoire.
