Pictures at an Exhibition

Inspired by an exhibition of paintings by the late Viktor Hartmann. The "Promenade" theme connects scenes including "The Old Castle," "Bydło," "Ballet of the Unhatched Chicks," and the climactic "Great Gate of Kiev." Best known in Ravel's orchestration, but the piano original has a raw power all its own.
