Gaspard de la nuit

by Maurice Ravel

PianoImpressionistSuite~23 minprofessional

Three tone poems inspired by Aloysius Bertrand's prose poems. Ravel intended it to be more difficult than Balakirev's Islamey, then considered the hardest piano piece. "Ondine" shimmers with water imagery, "Le Gibet" sustains a repeated B-flat throughout, and "Scarbo" is a diabolical toccata of extreme virtuosity.
