Recuerdos de la Alhambra

by Francisco Tárrega

GuitarRomanticStudy~5 minadvanced

Composed around 1896, this tremolo study is among the most celebrated pieces in the classical guitar repertoire. The right-hand tremolo technique — four rapid notes on one string while the left hand plays a bass melody — creates the illusion of two simultaneous voices. Inspired by the Alhambra palace in Granada, it evokes the sound of a Moorish lute in its sustained, shimmering melody over an arpeggiated bass.
