Viola Concerto

Written for Lionel Tertis (who initially declined it) and premiered by Paul Hindemith, this is one of the finest viola concertos ever written. The opening melody is one of the most beautiful in the viola repertoire. Walton's orchestration is transparent enough to let the viola's middle register sing throughout.
