The first of six suites for unaccompanied cello. Composed during Bach's tenure as Kapellmeister in Cöthen, the suite consists of six movements: Prélude, Allemande, Courante, Sarabande, Menuets I & II, and Gigue. The Prélude is especially famous for its flowing arpeggiated figures.
Elgar's last major work, composed in 1919 in the shadow of World War I. Its autumnal, elegiac character makes it one of the most emotionally profound concertos in the repertoire. Forever associated with Jacqueline du Pré's legendary 1965 recording.
